Course Description

This course extends the knowledge gained in the courses "Computer Workshop", "Computer Architecture and Organization", "UNIX Environment", and "Data Structures and Algorithms I" to enable students to understand the theoretical concepts of operating systems. The knowledge gained in this course will be applied to the course "Systems Administration".

The areas of study include functions of operating systems, evolution and types of operating systems, process management, deadlock, memory management, file management, I/O management and device management, security and protection plus case study.
